This sequel to last summer’s hit, THE ROOTING PLACE, picks up 20 years later when Oba is in college. The complexion of Oba's skin had made him an outsider and an enemy to his black Mississippi cousins during his boyhood. Now at 20 years old, he returns to Mississippi to claim his great, great grandmother's inheritance. He finds that not only is his inheritance at risk, but also that he is forced to find a way to gain his cousins’ respect and his manhood.
